The power of destiny – Can we be in the driver’s seat of our lives?

Most people would like to control their life and put some order in it. They try very hard in that direction but, most of the time, they feel they can’t go far enough. Is there any way to alter this sad state of affairs?

Thoughtful people apply to the above question. This brings them face to face with the question of Fate. They see the place of Fate in human life when they see that, despite all their efforts, things can take a turn for unpleasant results. They also see that all things are connected in some way. The randomness seems to be there only due to insufficient awareness, and that is a kind of ignorance. This begs the question: Is Destiny inexorably fixed, or can we make changes to it? We see the fixed nature of Destiny by the fact that, watching a rebellious child in his teens, one can feel that this person will probably end up in jail, and it happens exactly as predicted. This cannot be attributed to mere coincidence, the term that skeptics often use to hide. The same can be said for some astrological predictions that turn out to be amazingly true. For them to be coincidences, the odds computation would narrow it down to one in a million, but they happen much more frequently than that. Once again, we also note that not all predictions, astrological or otherwise, come to pass. This points to Destiny not being as rigidly fixed.

It can be noted that in terms of what can happen in the future, there are usually many possibilities with a probability attached to each possibility. As we get closer to an event in time, the probability converges on one of the possibilities. Thus we can say that while the odds are fixed, the probabilities are not. So, that’s where Destiny can be changed.

If we can understand the factors that introduce rigidity into Fate, perhaps we can see how changes to it are possible. One of the main factors that seems to bring a kind of inexorability to Destiny is mood. If the mind is strongly tied to the past through the conventional thought process, then Destiny seems to derive a certain inexorability from it. Pure self-awareness has the ability to alter the situation to the point where the mind that constantly talks becomes still. This cannot happen through any mind control because then there will only be internal conflict, between the controller and the controlled, adding to the noise. Something in the calm mind diverts Destiny towards better grounds. Those who have applied themselves to the matter of non-interfering self-awareness know of its power to influence Destiny. This is how they sit in the driver’s seat of their lives.

The above paragraphs may seem like an oversimplification of the Destiny theme. If that’s true. However, when people explore in their own way, they will discover for themselves the hidden harmony that helps them harness the forces behind Destiny. The avenues of discovery are many, but only those who break free from both belief and disbelief can reach a different spiritual dimension that Destiny can handle in an ego-free way.
