Montechoro, Portugal Resort Guide

The resort of Montechoro is located in the beautiful Algarve of Portugal, on the outskirts of Albufeira, at the northern end of the famous ‘strip’. The resort is ideally located for the region’s fantastic nightlife and beautiful sandy beaches. In recent years the resort has seen a lot of development and now has excellent accommodation facilities, including large hotels and apartment complexes.

The bustling town of Montechoro is full of restaurants, bars and shops. When you’re yearning for some peace and quiet, visit Albufeira’s traditional old town, which has excellent fish restaurants and an open-air market where you can pick up a bargain or two.

The golden sand beach at nearby Praia d’Oura is just 10 minutes from Montechoro. Located in a large bay, the beach is protected from the elements by colorful sandstone cliffs. Known as the Golden Beach, there are a host of water sports available here including water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, parasailing, kite surfing and the family favorite banana boat rides. If you’re looking for quieter, more secluded beaches and coves, there are plenty within walking distance of the resort, including the small beach of Praia dos Averios, which has a diving school, Santa Eulalia, and Praia Maria Luisa. Diving lessons and excursions for all levels are also available at the dive center in Albufeira. The beaches of Montechoro have Blue Flag status for the cleanliness and purity of the water. Relax with a boat ride along the beautiful coastline here, while also trying your hand at fishing. Another great way to admire the coastline is to go horseback riding along the beach on the famous Lustian horses or take a ride in a hot air balloon and marvel at the views below. Take a Seafari from Albufeira Marina to spot dolphins, explore the vast sea caves by boat, and go reef fishing.

Away from the beach, there is plenty to do in Montechoro. Activities include bowling, lawn bowling, tennis and golf. There are many golf courses to choose from, all within easy reach of Montechoro, including the incredible 18 hole Salgados course with its lake features and the 9 hole courses at Pine Cliffs and Balaia. The whole family will enjoy Zoomarine Park where you can swim with the dolphins, Aqualand with exciting water rides and slides, and Montechoro Park where you will find a swimming pool complex, mini golf, a play area for small children and restaurants.

There is so much to do and see around Montechoro that you will hardly have time to stop and take a breather on your last minute holiday in Portugal.

Whether you’re looking for beautiful beaches, lively nightlife or a relaxing golfing holiday, there are always plenty of travel deals available for the Algarve on the internet.
