Which level 1 troops should I upgrade first in Clash of Clans?

Many of you Clash of Clans players may be confused about which troops to upgrade first when you have finished building your lab. My answer is simple, upgrading archers should be your first priority when upgrading. Why? Because archers are more valuable in the long run, especially if you’re a very active Clash of Clans player who likes to raid and turn someone else’s base to rubble. There are 3 reasons why the archer is the highest priority of your troops to upgrade.

First, the archer has the best attack power compared to barbarians or goblins. You might be wondering why, because not only does the archer have the lowest health, they also have the lowest damage per second (dps) attack power compared to quills or goblins. That’s because the archer has an attack skill that the others don’t, and it’s called a ranged attack skill. This means that archers have a better chance of hitting those defensive buildings like cannons or towers, regardless of wall protections. Try to compare that to the barbarians who first need to get through the wall before they can get to anything.

Second, the archer does not choose targets. Unlike goblins who prioritize resource buildings when attacking, archers hit anything in sight (including walls unfortunately). This gives archers a better chance of taking down a base compared to goblins who are picky because resource stores are often placed deep within the base and fully protected. Don’t get me wrong here, goblins are the best troop if your only concern is stealing resources. However, you cannot deploy goblins without the help of other troops, such as quills or giants, because they will be easily crushed. On the other hand, an army made up of 100% archers will definitely be able to take out any base with decent protections and will even reward you with 3 stars sometimes.

Third, archers are an excellent clan castle troop. The most popular requested troops for Clan Castle right now are Archers for obvious reasons. The archers ability to hit from a distance is already dangerous and now try to put the archers inside a dozen strong protective walls. The result is that you will get an army group that can attack an enemy without having to fear being hit back. It’s a deadly combination!

One note to consider is that it can be very effective to field a full army of archers for a low level town hall base (1-5). However, once you get to a base level of 6 or higher than the town hall level, you may want to combine archers with other troops, such as giants or wall breakers.
