What are the qualities of a winger in a soccer team?

A winger is a player who operates from the wings during a soccer match. There are two kinds of wingers which include the left winger and the right winger.

A football team cannot do without wingers because if the defense is so tight that forwards penetrate, wingers can turn things around, either scoring goals or supplying crosses from the flanks that can result in goals.

The only thing about winger crosses is that the crosses have to be so precise that the opponents don’t foul them by being stronger in the air than the team. That is, crosses can only help a team win a game if the team’s players are good at air battle and can head the ball on goal.

A team that has tall players usually has an advantage when it comes to crosses from the wingers. That’s why it’s good for a team to have tall forwards who can use their heads very well. Also, it’s good for an opposing team to have tall defenders who can use their head very well.

A unique quality of a good winger is speed. A winger who has speed can send an opposing team cleaning up with his mesmerizing runs on the ball.

Christiano Ronaldo of the Portuguese national team and Manchester United of England is a player that I appreciate very much as a winger. He runs like a cheetah up and down the flanks.

A winger can be short or tall, but he can’t afford to lack speed. So, the greatest quality, among other qualities, of a winger is speed. A winger must also be able to cross the ball very well.
