Treatment of aphasia and ischemia with orthomolecular medicine

Treating and curing ischemia and aphasia with ordinary amino acids is the basis of Orthomolecular Medicine. Large doses of natural proteins called amino acids can repair the imbalance in the brain and repair its malfunction. These are affordable and used in therapeutic doses much higher than the levels normally found in food. The concept of orthomolecular medicine is based on the use of very high doses of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or botanical extracts for cell repair and enhancement of normal brain activities. These should be used long-term for patients with aphasia or ischemia. If the heart and brain systems are compromised, the person should look to orthomolecular medicine as a long-term goal.

Damage to the body and brain is quite severe in aphasia or ischemia. Ischemia causes an excessive release of excitatory neurotransmitters to the brain. Glutamate is the main excitatory amino acid and the brain of the person with ischemia and aphasia has too much glutamate. Acetylcholine and norepinephrine are the other excitatory amino acids in the brain.

In ischemia and aphasia, there is not enough of the amino acid GABA in the person’s brain. GABA, glycine, serotonin, and dopamine are inhibitory neurotransmitters. The goal of orthomolecular medicine using amino acid therapy is to balance the neurotransmitters in the patient’s brain. The brain needs more GABA and less glutamate.

Neurotransmitters are molecules that neurons release to transmit information to another cell and can excite or inhibit the action of the brain cell. Dopamine, serotonin, and GABA may be lower than desired in aphasia and ischemia. The goal is to calm the brain and prevent it from overproducing glutamate. This is partially avoiding stress and pain. Stress and pain lead to increased glutamate levels. The amino acids that can be used for this disease are GABA, carnitine and NAC. There are several targets for amino acid therapy. Treating the brain and cardiac systems should be the goal. Another goal should be to improve general health and improve sleep quality. Once the brain has been affected by stroke or ischemia, the cardiac system is often affected, and other circulatory problems will affect murmur flow.

Is there another problem in the brain of the stroke patient? There may be a problem with the patient’s hormone levels. The hormones produced by the pituitary gland can become unbalanced. The endocrine system must be evaluated. This patient should undergo extensive diagnostic testing for neurotransmitters and hormones. Hormone levels can be corrected in various ways with different types of alternative medicine.

Amino acid therapy may be successful in cases of ischemia or aphasia. The situation must be evaluated to determine if there are secondary diseases that would alter the amino acids used or increase the amounts used. This treatment therapy can last for several years. Food-based vitamins and botanical extracts should be added for optimal results.
