Training as a manual worker

Being a laborer for over 30 years and training for the same amount of time, I have a different perspective on training. For years I earned and earn my living with my physical and mental strength. I have to stay in shape to keep feeding my family. In over 30 years doing manual labor, I have never hurt my back or missed work due to an on-the-job injury.

I don’t always lift with my legs, and I never look or worry about form. I just do my job. I bend, twist, climb, lift and carry all day.

It’s rare for someone to go to work for as many years as I have and add years of training and not have a broken body. It’s one thing that I take care of myself, eat well, and have a different mindset than most men doing work jobs.

I hear it all the time on sites about back problems, and I’m getting old (most are younger than me) I can’t lift things like that anymore. Why do these guys continue to do a job that is physically difficult for them to do?

The reason is that for years they have heard from others like them that when you are older you will not be able to do the same things as before. Shit! At some point it will probably have a decline, but these guys just listen to everything in front of them. I’ve been listening to it for years, wait until you’re my age and I’ve been listening to this since I was 18. I don’t listen to it much anymore because of my age.

I get tired of people who chime in saying “They know a guy” or “My dad” or My grandfather “there will always be exceptions, but please don’t include me in the general workforce, because I don’t follow basic man standards.

I decide how things will go, not the story. People hate that I act like this and don’t care and I’m living proof so until someone can prove me wrong I’ll continue to train like I always have. Training to win at life, training for honor, training to survive is the reason I keep pushing my mind and body. The moment we decide we no longer need an edge is when we start to lose our edge. Once you feel that it doesn’t matter anymore that you’re right, you’ve already lost the edge!
