The Seventh Angel by Jeff Edwards

As a former paratrooper and army sniper, I often gravitate toward thrillers with a special ops-type hero, or something similar to that genre. I admit, I haven’t read a lot of thrillers with the Navy at the forefront, unless it’s Navy SEALS. That said, “The Seventh Angel” by Jeff Edwards seemed like a good read, so I decided to add it to my reading list for something a little different. I am very happy to have done it! “The Seventh Angel” is an excellent novel that keeps the reader engaged from the first page to the last word. I really enjoyed this page turning up the naval drama and I look forward to reading more from Jeff Edwards.

Edwards, a retired U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer and Anti-Submarine Warfare Specialist, writes with authority and a sophistication that will make all Navy veterans proud to have him championing naval histories. But more than naval precision in his writing, Edwards developed the story and characters in a way that really makes you want to know more about them, take care of them, and find out what happens as the story progresses. It was a very well developed and engaging story that contained suspense, action (although different from the kind of action in stories about special ops missions or similar stories about gunmen), caring, morale, and the feeling that this could actually take place in at any time in our world today.

The story centers on a military revolt in southeastern Russia that puts a hard-line former Soviet leader in command of a ballistic missile submarine and its arsenal of nuclear weapons. He is not afraid to use nuclear weapons to achieve his goal of regaining power and glory from the fallen Soviet Union. With excellent descriptions of the United States defense systems for such an incident, Edwards weaves into history a lone warship of the United States Navy, with a civilian who does not like the military and everything it represents on board. , that’s the world’s last hope to destroy the submarine sooner. it can launch a full-blown nuclear attack that will destroy the world as we know it. And weave a story that Edwards does! It’s premium storytelling at its finest.

If you like naval suspense stories, “The Seventh Angel” is a must read. However, I would also add that this novel is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-written, fascinating, and gripping military suspense story.
