The Samsung Galaxy S2: the most desired smartphone in the world

The Samsung Galaxy S2 currently enjoys the title as the world’s most desired smartphone. This is such an unexpected achievement for an Android phone as there are so many available in the market. Most of us expected Apple’s iPhone 4 to remain in the top position. Despite the influx of Android devices, it still managed to top the charts as the most coveted phone of 2011.

Before we take a look at the numbers, let’s take a look at the sales performance of Apple’s current flagship phone. The phone made by the Cupertino firm was announced in June 2010. When it went on sale in the United States on June 24 of the same year, who would have thought that 1.7 million units would be sold on June 26? No one thought that any other phone the competition had to offer would perform as well when it comes to sales. That’s what we think.

In February 2011, Samsung announced its new flagship. This was the Galaxy S2. The camera of the phone with a series of functions that we previously thought were impossible. It has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. It has an 8-megapixel front camera along with a 2-megapixel rear camera for video calling. The biggest achievement, however, was managing to cram all of this cutting-edge hardware into a phone that was just 8.49mm thick. Also, the phone weighed just 116 grams. Compared to the single-core processor, 5-megapixel camera, 9.3mm thickness, and 737-gram weight of the iPhone 4, Samsung’s smartphone was a technological marvel. With these specifications of the phone, the phone started to attract the attention of the consumers.

In April 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S2 was released to the public. Despite the phone’s superior specs, many still believed that it couldn’t compete with Apple’s smartphone. They were wrong. In just 55 days, the smartphone went on sale, it reached the 3 million mark. In July, it surpassed this sales record by selling 5 million units. This September, the phone hit the 10 million mark.

You may be thinking, “Big deal!” The iPhone 4 reached 1.7 units sold in just a few days after it went on sale. However, think about this. The smartphone reached the 5 million mark without launching in the US. Furthermore, it did this amazing feat with a fraction of the money spent on advertising and marketing compared to the massive amount of money spent by Apple.

With these data before you, do you still doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the most desired smartphone in the world?
