The best wedding themes for 2013 so far

Vintage Gold Great Gatsby

Some wedding styles have gone back to the 1920s and 1930s to create a sense of vintage glamour. The hems of the dresses are slightly higher and the graceful lines of the dresses lack the traditional big bustle. Modern design is replaced by classic lace and pearls in dresses, floral accents, and table settings. The main color palette for vintage weddings will consist of soft pastels like pink and lavender. Most groomsmen suits will be gray with a waistcoat and probably a classic bow tie. Regarding the decoration, some weddings use small antiques to decorate the reception area. An antique typewriter is a stylish touch for the card table. We’ve seen waiting or “lounge” areas with antique chairs to add relaxation and character. The gift table can be decorated with a classic vintage trunk to store gifts and cards. And of course we can’t forget about pastel, use those same soft tones or go all ivory white; Subtly decorate with ruffled fondant roses.

rustic chic

This theme is perfect for a down-to-earth couple. Don’t confuse rustic weddings with “rustic”, the rustic style is more natural and uses earthy tones and organic materials for decoration. Tables are decorated with wild flowers, sunflowers or even herbs and lavender centerpieces. Cocktails and drinks are served in old fashioned jars. Some of the most elegant decorations include candles in jars or eclectic bird cages that hang from trees. While most rustic weddings take place outdoors or in an old-fashioned barn, you can bring the outdoors indoors with branches and string lights. You can accent corners or greeting areas with rustic fruit boxes and fresh flowers to fill the empty space.

seaside celebration

A romantic seaside wedding is loved by beach locals and destination weddings alike. They evoke a sense of calm and tend to be a bit more casual. Seaside wedding planners don’t have to look further than the ocean for inspiration. Blues and shades drawn from a sunset create the color palette. The flowers are usually made up of whites and pinks, sometimes with a hint of blue. Bridesmaids’ dresses tend to be knee-length, but the wedding dress is usually long. As for cutlery, we’ve seen decorations as simple as tea lights and seashells. More formal seaside weddings will add a touch of navy blue and implement more nautical elements like compasses and anchors into the decor. Seashells or starfish can be used to decorate place cards. Shell bags or mini beach bags would be cute, yet elegant beach gifts.

Hallowe’en

With a cool autumn breeze and all those lovely autumn reds and golds, many couples exchange vows in the fall. Even more are doing it on Halloween. It makes sense, weddings and Halloween require people to dress up and give small favors. Couples with a penchant for gothic romance or simply horror movies have begun holding dramatic and unique wedding receptions in late October. Halloween weddings tend to have a darker color palette, using reds, oranges, purples, and blacks to add a bold mystique to the decor. Decorators wear glamorous masks with elegantly glowing feathers or pumpkins to set the mood at the reception. Most weddings will dispense with the traditional pumpkin and instead spray paint them silver or use a drill to make them polka dots and let out little dots of light. Cakes for this wedding theme can be quite elaborate. We’ve seen Victorian-style patterns in bold fondant colors and even some zombie-themed cakes. The decor and style are always ghoulish yet glamorous.

Addicted

This is by far the most fun wedding theme where the personality of the couple really shines through. Some of the unique items we’ve come across include three-and-a-quarter discs used as save-the-date cards and old-school Nintendo cartridges for wedding invitations. Some invitations depict comic book versions of the couple. For superhero fans, we see groomsmen wearing superhero logo t-shirts or cufflinks. For horror fans, you can pick up a few cases of Zombie Zinfandel or Vampire Merlot. By far the highlight of any geeky wedding is the cake. We’ve seen Dr. Who-themed cakes with the TARDIS as a topper or even the Dalek bride and groom. There are logo cakes and tons of video game cakes. So, break out the toy lightsabers – it’s time to celebrate.
