Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T 10.1-inch Netbook Review

Specs: The Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T netbook comes with an Intel N280 (1.66GHZ) processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It has a 10.1-inch LED-backlit LCD screen and is powered by a 3-cell battery. In terms of connectivity, this model has 2 USB ports, an Ethernet port (10/100), a VGA output, an SD card slot, a Memory Stick Duo card slot, headphone jack, microphone jack, Wi-Fi. fi (802.11b/g /n) and Bluetooth (2.1) connectivity.

Design: The Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T netbook comes in brown, pink, and white (yes, not black). It measures 10.5 x 7.1 x 1.3 inches and weighs 2.6 pounds. The outer casing has an elegant matte surface. All the keys on its keyboard are isolated (just like the ones on Apple computers) and it feels pretty good to type on despite its size. The memory card slots are located on the front, while the other ports and connectors are located on the side.

Features and performance: The Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T netbook works like any netbook on the market. It runs on Windows XP and can handle most simple computing tasks quite well. One feature that makes this model stand out from the rest is VAIO Multimedia Streaming software that enables data streaming between DLNA-enabled devices (such as your PC or PS 3). Other than that, there isn’t much that sets this model apart from the rest. Battery life hovers around 2.5 hours, which isn’t much compared to many other competing models (such as the Asus 1005HA and Toshiba Mini)

General: One of the main features of the Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T netbook is its price. It currently costs around $499 a piece, which is more than $100 more than other popular netbook models. As much as I’d like to justify the price (being a Sony fan), there really aren’t many good reasons for a consumer to shell out extra money for this model. Perhaps the premium is paid for the ‘glitter and glamour’ that comes with the brand name. The Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T netbook is best for Sony fans and those who just can’t get over its beautiful design.
