Soccer: Why Americans Love Their Sport

The sport we call “football” is called “American football” everywhere in the world. While it may not be as popular in other countries, it is very popular in the United States. In fact, according to some sources, soccer is the most popular sport in the United States.

Americans’ love of soccer is also cultural. We invent it. It is our sport. It is born in our lives. Young children watch soccer on television and learn to throw spirals in their backyard. They play soccer on the field at recess.

But why do we love him so much?

Not everyone does. Some people would say that it is their least favorite sport (they prefer basketball, baseball or hockey). But a lot of people love that tickets to soccer games are often hard to come by because they sell out so fast.

Soccer is considered a “hard” sport. Look at the soccer players; They tend to be big and strong people, and they have to be because of the nature of the sport. If a big guy is trying to tackle you, you have to be strong enough to resist him, quick enough to get away, and strong enough to get up afterwards and do it again. In fact, due to the roughness of football, most teams only play one game a week and use the rest of the week to recover. Compare this to baseball, for example, where teams may play a few games a week, and sometimes even two games on the same day (called a “doubleheader”).

Due to its reputation for toughness, soccer is also considered a “man’s” sport (although many women play it). Strength, power, stamina, toughness, these are traits that are considered manly, and are some of the same traits that are required in soccer.

It is also popular due to the aspect of the team. A man cannot play football nor can a man win a football game. You need the whole team. People who throw the ball where it needs to go, people who block, people who take down, and people who can catch the ball and run quickly while avoiding the other team’s attempts to stop them. When you score a touchdown, the team celebrates together because they made it and the fans celebrate the success of their favorite team.

Soccer also has elemental appeal. Have you ever seen a soccer game where it started to rain or snow? What happened? The game went on! In addition to dealing with beating their opponents, they now also had to deal with the weather. This can add an element of excitement to the game!

If you are a football fan, you probably already know all this. And if not, what are you waiting for? Watch a game and see what you think!
