Sciatic Nerve Treatment: 4 Everyday Things That Can Cause a Flare

Sciatic nerve pain, can be a bear. One of the most important things about sciatica is feeling like you never know when it’s going to show up. Some of you may be lucky, you may have ‘sciatica’, a kind of inner feeling that lets you know that trouble is on its way. For most of us, we have no idea when the next sneak attack of sciatica will be. So from our library of sciatica relief tips, we rounded up four everyday things that can cause a sciatica flare:

1.Drive – Car rides on Sundays are fun and relaxing, but if you’re commuting to work, you might want to think about paying someone else to take the wheel. All the action of the leg between the gas and the brake can create pain in the sciatic nerve. The choppier your driving, the more leg action you’ll need to ‘keep up’ with other cars. The more leg action you do, the more likely you are to tease the sciatic beast in you…it’s a vicious cycle.

2. Take care of that floor – And the winner of the worst floor is… Concrete. If you absolutely can’t avoid it, try limiting your time on concrete floors to 30 minutes or less (more sciatica relief tips: Carpet is best, hardwood is next best, and tile isn’t as good). But remember, concrete floors are your new deadly enemy.)

3. Sit up straight – You listened to it growing up and now you can listen to it again – lucky you. Posture is a big problem. Slouching can put pressure on your spine, which causes… you guessed it, sciatic nerve pain.

4. High heels – This is for you girls. If you prance around at the office or in Manhattan, wearing high heels, you’re basically dooming yourself to a sciatica attack. Any shoe that your feet aren’t flat and straight in is a shoe you don’t want to spend a lot of time in.
