Premier League: maximum goal of the season

Picking the most out of several goals scored in a full 13 weeks of play this season is as difficult as it is subjective.

I’ve done my best to please everyone, make almost everyone. We tried this by choosing what we think are the three best goals of the season, so far, and then ranking them to decide which one was the best.

So here we go with our top three goals of the season, so far, in descending order:

# 3: Torres, for Liverpool against Chelsea, Sunday, November 7, 2010

How it happened: Languishing on the points table earlier in the season amid ownership disputes at Anfield, the Merseysiders needed a shot to the arm and Fernando Torres provided it in their home game against champions Chelsea against their new owners.

In a first half dominated by the Reds, in the absence of Didier Drogba, in Chelsea’s starting eleven, Dirk Kuyt, who was returning from injury, helped Torres put his team ahead, in the 11th minute. One minute to rest, Torres scored his second goal of the game and his seventh in eight games against the Blues. The entire sequence had a ballet-like rhythm: Cole slipping, Meireles grabbing the ball and sweeping it to the left toward Torres, Torres spinning, Ivanovic frozen, the ball oozing Cech into the net.

# 2: Bale, for Tottenham vs. Stoke, Saturday 21 Aug 2010

How it happened: Bale gave the Spurs an early lead when in the 20th minute he headed the ball from within six yards. Just five minutes later, Ricardo Fuller’s six-yard strike saw the Potters neutralize the lead.

After another five minutes had elapsed, it was Gale’s defining moment and possibly his coming of age as a world-class player. Fueled by Lennon’s clip, Bale unleashed an 18-yard volley with his left foot from the left of the penalty area that sank into the upper-right corner of the net, a masterpiece of technical finesse.

# 1: Alex, Chelsea v Arsenal, Sunday October 3, 2010

How it happened: In a game dominated by Arsenal from the start, the Drogba factor had a smashing effect for Chelsea when the Ivorian forward put them ahead in the 40th minute with his 13th goal in as many games against the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger’s squad continued to dominate ball possession, but despite all their good passing, they wasted their chances, on goal. In top-notch football, a one-goal lead is difficult to sustain, but Arsenal’s wasted opportunities didn’t help matters, and eventually Chelsea put the problem out of the question, with about five minutes of regulation time left for him. final.

Laurent Koscielny was booked for an unfair challenge at Anelka outside the Gunners area. When Alex was about to take the free kick, Malouda was flanked by Song and Arshavin at the other end of the Arsenal wall. Even when Alex shot, Malouda stayed behind Song and Arshavin couldn’t close the gap, the ball slipping and lodged in the right corner of the net. Simply spectacular.
