Post-Workout Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie Recipe from Primal

I enjoyed a Primal Protein Blueberry Coconut Smoothie just a few minutes after a lifting strength workout. I share the recipe below.

It only gave me 300 calories, which wasn’t enough, but I didn’t want a full meal because I knew I was going to eat at a local restaurant for brunch. There, I ate a nutritious and delicious omelette along with some non-primary things that I will share in tomorrow’s post!

This recipe is simple, but tasty. The shake was fluffy due to the whey protein and not much else, however if you add some crushed ice it should be less fluffy and smoother. Enjoy!

Primal Protein Blueberry Coconut Smoothie Recipe

  • 1.5 scoops of whey protein powder
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries (I used exactly 4.6 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons grated coconut
  • 2 drops of stevia
  • 4 oz of water
  • Add ice if desired or have unfrozen blueberries

Personally, I prefer the Now Foods brand of whey protein powder. When you buy wholesale from Amazon, you get a fantastic deal. Due to the fact that I live in Michigan, I picked blueberries from a local farm last summer. Several pounds of blueberries are still sitting in the freezer from last year. If you have fresh blueberries, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice or as desired to lower the temperature.

The 2 drops of stevia added a bit of sweetness. The powdered version of stevia is much better, but a couple of drops of liquid will do the trick.

Quick nutritional breakdown

  • 297 calories
  • 38.8g protein, 20g carbs (5 from fiber)
  • Traces of some vitamins and minerals

At under 300 calories, this smoothie is perfect as a snack or as a “side dish” to a larger meal. It’s a hundred dose of protein. Three giant eggs cooked in coconut oil, butter, or lard would make a great topping for this smoothie. Eggs are one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, as well as one of the cheapest.

If you enjoy this smoothie with eggs, be sure to eat the whole egg. The yolk is the most nutritious part of the egg and the cholesterol content has no effect on the risk of heart disease.

Cost Breakdown – $1.43

  • Amazon Whey Protein – 90 cents
  • Amazon Shredded Coconut – 7 cents
  • I pick blueberries from a local farm – 46 cents

This food is not cheap but it is not expensive either. If you double the recipe, most people have a full meal for less than $3.
