Organized or DIY karaoke party?

A karaoke party hosted by a professional DJ can be a real treat and give you the chance to enjoy the party yourself. It will definitely reduce your stress level to handle the night.

However, saving money and do-it-yourself party planning might be your only option. Usually the two factors that go into DIY or fully hosted parties will be whether or not you’re restricted with the amount allotted for your party, and whether you want the drama of getting your mates on stage.

Typical venues are: the boardroom, breakout area, local pub or local restaurant. Make sure that, whatever the location, you have adequate supplies of fluids. Yes, sadly in today’s age, it will probably take a certain amount of alcohol for most to get behind the microphone. Likewise, singing, sweating anxiously, and dancing will have an effect on dehydrating your guests. Plenty of bottled water will be a very sensible approach, avoid adding salty snacks afterwards to make them thirsty again.

The karaoke party DJ’s will not dictate the songs that you or your group will sing, this is still your choice. Make sure your song list is large and has a wide range of classic songs and the latest hits, especially newer songs for junior staff. Company directors will not be interested in trying to sing LMFAO songs, equally it is unlikely that most young people have heard of Pat Boon or want to sing the best of Chad Morgan. Some rental companies have thousands and thousands of songs. Are the songs licensed or instead illegally downloaded from the internet? If they are not licensed, the author of the song and the band receive no royalties. Of the thousands of songs you’ve been guaranteed, are they mostly popular songs or just a lot to impress you? Please request a song list prior to booking from your rental company.

Do some research; ask the bosses if they have any favorite songs. You don’t want the CEO about to launch into Rock Lobster right after some young man just nailed the song. And the public does not want to hear the same song twice? Also, it’s not good etiquette to repeat songs (at least in a short period of time).

If you decide that your party will be DIY (Do It Yourself), stay focused on the preparation of the night and in the evening organize pencils and lots of paper for the singers to write their favorite songs. If you throw a karaoke party with a DJ (known as a KJ – Karaoke Jock), the night will take care of itself. Don’t forget to allot some time if you want one of the bosses to make a speech.

With a KJ, you, the organizer, will be freed from most of the responsibilities of the night and can go to karaoke yourself and enjoy the night.

Most people are there just to have fun. They won’t care if you’re a great singer or not as long as you try. If the budget is available, a smoke machine and some lights will take the night to another dimension. And get some wigs, buy them (think you’ll wear them again) or rent them to send the party into the stratosphere!

Most of all have fun!
