Of Baptists and Mormons

Recently, while sitting on our front porch to take a break from the computer, I noticed some young people going door to door. There were two boys and two girls, all very well dressed and looking like fish out of water on this East Side of Toledo.

The two young ladies approached me and the boys continued to the next door. One began by asking if he attended any churches and said that they were with any Baptist churches in town. He said that he no longer attended church services in Toledo, but if he did it would be the same day he worshiped Jesus Christ: the seventh day Sabbath.

I mentioned how Protestants still bow to Rome, pagan popes, and Constantine, and don’t follow the example of Jesus. He asked me if he could at least lend me a Bible tract that he had in his hand. When I saw the talk of going to heaven, I asked them why they were spreading such religious lies: that the Bible never offers heaven as a reward for the saved, but that Jesus made it clear. “the meek shall inherit the earth.”

I said that everyone has at least heard that Scripture, and agreed. I said that the Bible says no such thing about going to heaven. The other girl chimed in and said she did. I asked him if he would please show me then. She kind of stomped next to me and looked up a scripture where she says we all fall short of the glory of God and we’re sinners, and I said, “Yeah, that’s true, but nowhere says something about going to heaven.” Then he turned to another Scripture that also mentions our sinful state and again I said, “Yes, but that says not a thing about going to heaven.” She looked nervous and blurted out, “But they show us how to get to heaven.” And I disagreed.

I asked them to ask their minister why they tell people they are going to heaven when Jesus taught “the meek shall inherit the earth.” I encouraged them to learn what the Bible really teaches. They practically ran off the porch, and the guys next door – no one answered there – who had been listening, said, “Have a nice day!” I said, “I’m not your enemy. Don’t be afraid of the truth, let it set you free. Tell your minister that Jesus Christ said “the meek shall inherit the earth.”

They reminded me of those vintage dolls or toys where you pull the string and they have various messages engraved on them, like – “I love you!” When I broke their spell, they were lost and confused, the truth did not square with their traditional way of thinking. I hope you can learn the truth about being born again and Heaven and Hell. I have prayed for them as I deeply appreciate how God began to teach me truths when I was a teenager.

Then a week later, several fellow Mormons stopped by just as I was getting ready to go for a bike ride. They were also well dressed, in their white shirts, ties, and dress pants. One “elderly man” was from Washington State and the other “elderly man” (both were much younger than me) was from Arizona. I asked if people in their states didn’t need to hear what they had to say. They basically said they had a lot of Mormons out there.

I mentioned how I agreed that we are the so-called “Lost Ten Tribes of Israel,” but since they supposedly know that, it’s with more reason they should not be celebrating pagan holidays pretending to be Christian and Sunday instead of the seventh day Saturday and the biblical holidays that Jesus Christ and the Church of God kept and keep (which portrays God’s plan of salvation for all mankind). I reminded them that the Church of God was founded on the holy day of Shavuot-Pentecost-in Jerusalem, and that Jesus commanded his followers to commemorate his death every Passover and Paul instructed the Gentiles how to properly keep it and celebrate it. the Yeastless Days. Bread in spirit and in truth. One said that he wanted to do more studies on the tribes and wanted to find out why they don’t keep the Passover.

It was nice talking to them, and I heard some things they had to say and then I asked them about it. I didn’t say all of it, just most of it. They typed in my website address to find my book, Beyond Babylon: The Rise and Fall of Europe and for more information on Passover and the Twelve Tribes of Israel and on the dietary laws and many other topics we cover.

I ran into them in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Oregon (just east of Toledo) on my way to my car, just as I was telling my friend about my experience with them! I yelled at them, got in their car and waved to make sure they searched for my website. Then I saw them again driving through a nearby neighborhood and greeted them.

A Sabbath-keeping Church of God brother living in Sweden thought I should read the Book of Mormon to see what I think for myself. So I went to the Oregon Library and looked it over and decided to donate a copy of Beyond Babylon ceiling…
