How to wash a microbead pillow

From time to time, after repeated use or due to messy accidents, the microbead pillows will need to be cleaned. Unlike memory foam or feather pillows, in which only the cover can be washed, micro-pearl pillows can be washed, provided adequate measures are taken to prevent it from being destroyed. On many micro-pearl pillows, the label suggests that they can only be treated locally. This can be done by scrubbing the stain or stains with soapy water or any other mild cleaning solution; bleach should never be used.

However, people with small children or animals often find that the pillow may be too dirty to clean with the stain treatment method. Micro-pearl pillows can be machine washed as long as you are careful. It is important that the pillow is first placed in another pillowcase with the end tied so that it does not fall off during washing. The pillowcase prevents the micro-pearl pillow from falling apart through churning and running water. It’s the pillowcase that takes the beating while the micro-pearl pillow stays secure inside while still getting the cleaning it needs. A detergent designed for fine fabrics or wool, such as Woolite, should be used to further prevent possible tearing of the fabric. Again, detergent with bleach should not be used as it can break down the nylon lycra or the outer spandex fabric of the pillow.

Wash the microbead pillow on the gentlest cycle of your washing machine using only cold water; heat risks damaging the microbeads and the exterior of the pillow. While washing, the pillow should be checked occasionally to make sure the pillow is not damaged. While this step is not necessary, it is definitely a good idea. After washing, it is incredibly important to remember that you cannot use the dryer to dry it because, once again, the heat would create a terrible, sticky mess on the outer case of your favorite pillow. However, a tumble dryer can be used to air dry the pillow as long as heat is not used. To complete drying, the pillow must be hung to drip dry. With certain higher-quality micro-pearl pillow brands, like Snooztime, regular machine wash and dry is possible, making it easier and also more convenient to clean your favorite pillow. Proper cleaning of micro-pearl pillows guarantees their owner many more years of comfortable rest.
