How to make more money with Google AdSense

Like any Google AdSense publisher, you will want to increase your Google AdSense revenue. Your AdSense earnings depend on 3 factors: (1) the number of visitors to your site, (2) the number of visitors who click on the ads (click-through rate or CTR), and (3) how well the ads pay (Cost per click, CPC). Get any of these factors up and you’ll make more money with AdSense!

Google AdSense revenue = Traffic x CTR x CPC

Fortunately you can control all of these variables.

Increase your website traffic

There are many techniques to increase your website traffic. I will list some techniques here:

  • Improve your ranking in search engines. Basically, you get more traffic as your site gets closer to the top (of any listing, including the search engine results page)
  • Add your site to directories. They are a great way to increase link popularity as well as get your site indexed in search engines.
  • Add your site to search engines (not necessary if you’ve done this before)
  • Advertise your site through other means
  • Etc.

Increase click rate

There are many techniques, I will list a few here:

  • Make sure the ad is relevant. Although Google does most of this (Google AdSense will show ads according to the keywords on your page), you still need to optimize for the keywords and key phrases on your pages.
  • Make sure the ad is visible (many people develop ad/banner blindness), so pay attention to your Google AdSense ad:
    • placement: placement of the ad on the page, i.e. top, bottom, side, inline, etc.
    • layout: leaderboard, banner, tower, etc.
    • color scheme: featured color scheme, vs. mix in color scheme.

Use the channel and data collected to experiment with the combinations above to optimize your click-through rate.

  • Etc.

In any case, never ask your visitor to click on the ads or do it yourself. This is against the Google AdSense TOS and you will be banned from the program.

Increase how well ads pay

Your choice will be limited with established sites because you have to keep the web pages relevant to the theme of the site, but you can create new sites to cater to more expensive keywords. You can do this by going to Google AdWords and seeing which advertiser is paying per click (you don’t have to sign up to do this). For example, these are some words and recommended offer:

  • Well, you get the idea.
    • $1.56 – “webmaster”
    • $20.00 – “web hosting” WOW!
    • $0.62 – “forums”
  • Create web pages relevant to your site, but optimized for your selected keywords.
  • Avoid using low-paying keywords that can confuse AdSense.

I hope this basic tutorial gives you a good foundation and allows you to become a more successful ad publisher, that is, make more money with Google AdSense.
