How to become a real estate agent in Jamaica: the license to sell property in Jamaica legally

If you are looking to sell real estate in Jamaica, you can do so by attending the #100H Real Estate Salesperson Course offered at the Jamaica University of Technology. After you pass the course, you have to go through some background checks to make sure you don’t have any skeletons in your closet. The final step is an interview with the Jamaica Real Estate Board to get final approval to become a Sales Agent.

Salesperson Course #100H

This course is four weeks full-time in the College of Built Environment at the University of Technology of Jamaica. It offers necessary material for you to become an efficient agent in the local market, because what you don’t know can hurt you. You will receive training to handle Jamaican property transactions such as sales, rentals and leases.

Background checks

The nature of the industry involves large monetary transactions and in that field you may find people of a dishonest nature. In order to protect people and their assets from things like fraud, a background check is done on every applicant for a license approval, one of these checks being a police report.

The interview with the board

After gathering all your background check documents, you must submit these documents and attend an interview with a real estate board official who puts the final stamp of approval on your application to become a sales agent in Jamaica.

Start selling

After you have passed the exams and verifications to legally practice in Jamaica, in most cases you must be employed by an authorized dealer in Jamaica. There are some exceptions where people can sell property without having a license, but you should check the Jamaican Real Estate Act for the conditions.
