How Effective Organizations Develop Leaders: 5 Key Steps

One of the key reasons there are far fewer real leaders than there are individuals in leadership positions is that few groups take the time and effort to effectively train and develop these individuals. For more than four decades, I have identified, qualified, trained and developed thousands of actual and/or potential leaders, as well as, on several occasions, personally served as a leader. The reality is that there are no born leaders and no matter how effective and/or successful one is, in other components/activities of their lives, becoming a quality leader requires a number of assets, including attitude, aptitude/skill – set etc! However, the most relevant, effective, successful and sustainable organizations realize how important it is to effectively train, train and develop their leaders. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, review, examine and discuss 5 key steps in this process and why they are important.

1. Professionally Designed Leadership Training Program: To meet the challenge of creating better leaders, the most effective groups consistently rely on, develop, and use professionally designed leadership training programs. They realize/recognize that a leader needs to be trained, in a professional way, if he wants to make a real difference, for the better! Instead of trying to reinvent – the – wheel, one should proceed, with deserved self-confidence, to be proactive, instead of resorting to procrastination.

two. Review, manage, update, analyze, etc. periodically: Times change and therefore successful organizations must be ready, willing and able to evolve accordingly. Leaders should regularly review and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the specific group, to use each strength and address them. every area of weakness! It takes a combination of review, quality management/planning, updating (when necessary, hopefully in an evolutionary way, rather than revolutionary), and a thorough analysis of the best way forward. These skills/abilities/assets, in general, require significant and effective planning and training, on a regular basis!

3. Regular, Periodic, Current/True Strategic Planning: Although most have heard of it, few groups undergo regular, periodic, real strategic planning. In fact, I have come to believe that this is largely because most are not trained to understand what is involved, nor are they willing to take the time and put in the necessary and necessary effort!

Four. Well considered action plan: Effective strategic planning must culminate in, perceive and conceive, create, develop and implement, the finest, most relevant and well considered plan of action! To achieve this means setting goals, priorities, etc., focused, aligning the right leaders, with the necessary actions, etc.

5. Identify, qualify, train, inspire and motivate the best future leaders: You are not acting like a true leader unless you emphasize, identify, qualify, train, inspire and motivate the right set of future leaders to lead your group forward in the most relevant and sustainable way. !

Many studies show that those organizations that take leadership training seriously (based on true planning) are the most sustainable, etc. Will you bring your group into the future?
