Salik is an electronic toll gate system operating in the Emirate of Dubai. The system, introduced in 2007, aims to improve traffic flow on the roads in Dubai. The Salik system is owned by the Dubai government, which retains a majority stake in it.
To drive in the UAE, you must have a Salik account. This account requires you to enter details about your vehicle and your personal details. This information will be linked to a readable tag that will allow the Dubai toll system to identify you. You must also ensure that the Salik tag is on the windscreen at all times.
The Salik system works by using RFID technology to detect vehicles passing through toll gates. The system will then automatically deduct the toll amount from the associated account. Salik accounts must be linked to a valid bank account. The Salik tag needs to be attached to the windshield or to a centimeter below the rear view mirror.

You can do this by visiting the official website of the Salik service or downloading the RTA’s app. The Salik system works all year round. The only exceptions are Fridays and nighttime. If you fail to pay your Salik account balance, you will have to pay a fine of 50 AED. The best way to avoid this is to recharge the account within 5 working days.
