Hong Kong Nightlife Guide Part 1 – Party in Hong Kong

Now that we’ve gotten used to living here, it’s time to move on to the entertainment side of Hong Kong. There are many things to do here, from musicals, plays, movies, concerts, bars, clubs, etc.

The first set of guides will focus on the bar and club scene.

As with all other skins, you may find the party scene split between the different areas.

Hong Kong Island

The island offers the best known nightlife and “place to be seen”. From the expat-filled Lan Kwai Fong, the more “Adult Entertainment” areas in Wanchai, or the local bars in Causeway Bay, you can find any kind of entertainment here.

Lan Kwai Fong

Possibly the best known area, Lan Kwai Fong is a long winding street that contains a variety of bars. Starting on Thursdays, the bars and the street are filled with people drinking, dancing and mingling. This place is often packed with expats and is a popular introduction to Hong Kong for newcomers.

Wan Chai

Wanchai is the more “grown-up” area of ​​the Island. Although you have some decent bars (Stormies, Mes Amis), this area is full of strip and karaoke bars.

Causeway Bay

This area has the most local, cheap and cheerful bars. The bars require a bit more hunting to find, and they’re not all located around one like the two areas above.

kowloon

Although Kowloon has some high-end bars and clubs, it is different from the island. The bars are not clustered, and most places are more laid back and relaxed than central.

Tsim Sha Tsui / Tsim Sha Tsui East

The main hub of bars in Kowloon is located on TST or TST East. Bulldogs, McLovins and Mody road cover the East Side. Ashley road (Mes Amis, Castros) and One Peking Road cover TST

lantau

Lantau and NT is more limited in its nightlife venues. Discovery Bay has a lot of bars and Tung Chung has a couple of those too. Good to hang out on a quiet night, but nothing spectacular if you want a crazy night on the town. There are a couple of islands with good beachside bars and restaurants. These places are worth a visit if you are adventurous and not afraid to visit the “rural” areas of Hong Kong!
