The scents left behind are too strong and pungent for the ants who will try to avoid the area entirely. All you need to do is sprinkle the ground spices in the drawers or in the crevice by the steps and in the corners before your doors.

Spices aren’t the only dirt repellent you can use. Coffee is also a relatively acidic home remedy that can be sprinkled in your garden. This is also a useful solution to keep stray cats and rats away.

Cucumber peels or scents drive ants crazy. Avoid this water-based vegetable whenever possible. You can leave the husk near doors and windows where ants enter, or you can have essential oils applied to your home.

There are also some alkaline substances that you can use. Ants don’t like chalk, believe it or not. They also don’t like plain baking powder and soapy products.

It is also important to remember to keep your home clean, especially around the sink. There could be some food scraps on the plate you placed in the sink, as well as a small body of water that ants can get to. You can add a couple of drops of peppermint to the sink to keep ants at bay.
