Great gift ideas for a grandmother

Grandparents, what can we say about them. Well, for starters, they’re your second parents. Who did you run to crying when you broke your mom’s favorite china? She was the grandmother! She loved you like you were her precious little gift. She was always there when the going got tough and you needed advice. Now that you’re all grown up, it’s time to pay her back and show her how much you appreciate her.

The holidays are fast approaching and this could be the perfect opportunity to show him that you care. So what do I buy him this year? Not the same old thing again; I’m sure you already have a lot of scarves. Be different this year and get him something he really likes or needs.

We’ve put together some tips for buying a special gift for Grandma:

1. Open your senses; listen to conversations. You may be giving hints about what you would like this Christmas without realizing it. For example, “This coffee pot is making weird noises” or “My friend Elizabeth told me about a new book that sounds great, but I don’t want to buy it until it’s available in paperback.”

2. Be resourceful and shop around. Do you have any kind of special hobby, like collecting old pottery? If so, try to get him what he is missing in his collection.

3. Be creative; use your imagination. Year after year you send him a plain old Christmas card. Get artistic and make it personal by creating your own card. Or use family photos or other keepsakes to create personalized gifts, like photo purses.

4. Be practical; don’t give him something useless. Treat her to movie passes, travel accessories, or pamper her with a manicure. Make sure you get him something that you know he uses and appreciates.

Giving gifts to grandparents, or just showing them you care, shouldn’t be done just during the holiday seasons. Show them you appreciate them all year long. If they live far from you, a simple phone call would suffice. What really matters to them is knowing that their grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember and love them.

One day you are also going to be a grandfather, wouldn’t you like your grandchildren to do the same?
