Follow a diet for gallstones

The foods you eat play an important role in your health and well-being. When harmful foods and drinks are consumed in excess, this often results in illnesses that can be fatal or life-threatening.

In recent decades, more and more people have developed gallstones due to poor diet and bad habits. The cure for gallstones is expensive surgery, but it can be prevented with an effective gallstone diet regimen.

Gallstones form when minerals build up inside the gallbladder. The gallbladder is an important digestive organ that stores bile from the liver, an alkaline fluid used in digestion.

A gallstone diet is recommended if you are diagnosed as suffering from garlic gallstones. If you follow the diet for gallstones regularly, you will save yourself from expensive gallbladder surgery.

eat a lot of fiber

A diet rich in dietary fiber is one of the best ways to treat or prevent gallstones. Fiber helps your digestive system work efficiently. High-fiber foods include whole-grain breads, whole-grain cereals, bran flakes, muffins, bagels, corn bran cereals, whole-grain pasta, and brown rice.

Eat fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are rich in water soluble fiber. Fruits that are good for gallstone sufferers are grapes and fresh grape juice, apples, apricots, strawberries, raspberries, guavas, figs, oranges, lemons, currants, pears, avocados, and dried fruits like raisins, dates, and prunes.

Vegetables that should be included in a diet for gallstones are broccoli, green beans, kidney beans, broad beans, snap peas, and artichokes. You can also drink fresh vegetable juices like cucumbers and beets, but avoid sprouts.

drink plenty of water

Be sure to drink plenty of water and fluids. Water keeps your digestive system in tip-top shape and helps your kidneys and gallbladder to consistently eliminate waste.

Avoid foods that can cause a gallbladder attack

Some foods are not good for gallbladder sufferers and should be avoided as much as possible. These foods include pork, eggs, poultry, onions, beans (not green beans), nuts, and all kinds of fried and fatty foods. Drinks to avoid are milk, coffee and alcoholic beverages. Also stay away from salty foods and processed foods high in sugar.

A gallstone diet is an inexpensive and healthy way to prevent gallstones and gallbladder disease. Be sure to see your doctor if you suspect you have gallstones. Gallbladder disease can be deadly, but you can prevent it by following a gallstone diet.
