Conversational Hypnosis – How to Use Pattern Interruptions in Conversational Hypnosis

The use of interruption patterns is one of the most popular approaches in conversational hypnosis. They are relatively easy to use and are particularly effective at putting anyone into a trance state.

What are pattern interrupts? The reality is that anything can be an interruption. As long as you understand how they work, you will be able to choose the right tools for each conversational hypnosis induction.

As the name suggests, these tools are used to break thought patterns. In our everyday communication we use a set of value rules that we have learned and used instinctively since our childhood.

Let me give you an example. If someone asks you, “Do you know what time it is now?”, you will respond by telling them the exact time. This is what he expects too.

However, since this question requires a “yes” or “no” answer, you can easily say “yes” when asked about the time, without giving the exact time. The other person doesn’t expect you to just say “yes” or “no.” Now, you have his attention, as he is looking for a logical explanation for your answer.

This is the perfect example of a chatter interrupt that is often used by conversational hypnosis practitioners. By answering a simple “yes,” you have broken the person’s thought pattern (their expectation of getting the exact time).

You can literally do anything to break a thought pattern. You can make an unexpected gesture. You can also use physical contact, such as a pat on the back, that the person does not expect.

You can ask a strange and unexpected question or give a strange and unexpected answer. He may even dress in a way that he is not expected to dress.

Now that you know what pattern breaks are, you can easily learn how to use them in conversational hypnosis. They are used to put a person into a trance state.

The trance state is a state of heightened awareness. Simply put, you have the person’s full attention at all levels of consciousness, so you have virtually allowed yourself to influence them. All you have to do is use conversational hypnosis to do it.

When one thought pattern is broken, it is immediately replaced by another. Using the example above, the person is now wondering why you haven’t told them the time. Since he can’t find a logical answer in his mind, he is looking for you to tell him how to complete the pattern.

This gives you the perfect opportunity to do an embedded command. This embedded command should include what you want the person to do. I’ll show you how this is done using the example above.

Once you’ve put the person into a trance state by answering “yes” to their question about time, you can simply say, “Relax. Think about having enough time to complete what you’re doing.”

In this case, “relax” is your embedded command. You justify it with a second allowing the person to forget the trouble he is experiencing.

This is a very simple example, but in conversational hypnosis you can literally use any interrupt pattern to put the person into a trance and make an embedded command.

To get the best possible results from conversational hypnosis, I recommend using a pattern interrupt that can be related to the embedded command. In this way, the embedded command will be more effective, since it will allow you to completely fill in the newly emerged pattern.

Let’s say you’re a seller trying to counter an objection related to the high price of the product. You are thinking about the cost of the product significantly reducing your budget.

In this case, a suitable pattern interrupt would be: “How much are you willing to invest to achieve your goals?” This automatically makes the person think about getting returns on investment instead of spending money. You can use this to influence the perspective on the benefits of your product.

You now know the basics of using interrupt patterns in conversational hypnosis. If you want to master the hypnotic art, the best way to do it is by expanding your knowledge and practicing continuously.
