Combining ECM and BPM: Unleash the Potential of Agile ECM

What does the world’s largest operating hydropower plant have in common with Agile ECM? Started in 1971, the construction of the Itaipu dam between Paraguay and Brazil took almost 12 years to complete. The dam reservoir began its formation on October 13, 1982, when construction of the dam was completed. The water rose a staggering 330 feet and reached the spillway gates in just two weeks. The amount of potential energy, or energy assets, behind the dam wall was difficult to understand. People could enjoy the many benefits of the reservoir lake … fishing, boating, irrigation, and more. But could you get a more tangible benefit?

Over the past few years, many organizations have successfully implemented some type of document management system or content management system. Millions and millions of documents have been digitized, indexed and added to these systems, what we would call digital assets. These organizational assets, now present in the repository (or reservoir …), have improved business operations and efficiency for a number of reasons including: faster search and recovery, reduced costs, improved storage, disaster recovery , etc. But could there be more benefits for your group? What if those digital assets could be harnessed to become a true source of energy for your organization? Could that be transformative? Could that give you a competitive advantage?

That’s what we call Agile ECM … combining Business Process Management (BPM) with Enterprise Content Management (ECM) to truly empower your team and generate substantial productivity gains. When engineers installed generators at the Itaipu dam, they harnessed energy from their liquid assets and created more power than 10 nuclear power plants that provide 19% of electrical power for Brazil and 90% for Paraguay. Wow!

What could you do to your advantage turning on the Agile ECM generators?
