Boat deck ideas

There are many additional expenses to living on a lake. Many of the expenses may be considered luxury items for many people, but they are necessary if you are going to enjoy your property on the lake. My husband and I have always enjoyed spending time at different lakes. We love to fish and go on day or weekend trips around the area. We plan to retire by a lake, but decided to move earlier because we found a house and the lake shore at a great price.

We moved in at the end of July five years ago. The former owners of our house did not have a dock on the lake. We have a steep bank that leads to the water, so we also needed to design some kind of stepping system. We had a carpenter go through the bench and come up with a design that he could make the following spring. My husband also told me that we needed a bigger boat to fish safely in the lake we live in. The lake is sixty miles around and twenty-seven miles wide, so the waves can get quite large. Along with a larger boat, we also needed to invest in covers for the new boat, as well as the small rowboat that we bought. We also needed a boat lift to keep the boat out of the water when it was on the dock. One of our new neighbors tried to convince us to put an awning on top of the boat lift instead of investing in the boat covers. This seemed like a good idea at first, until we noticed all the bird droppings on the surrounding neighbors’ canopies. Birds liked to perch on canopies and build nests under them. We decided that we would buy boat covers. We took the measurements of the two ships to a maritime merchant. The boat covers they had in stock weren’t very good quality and were generic so they didn’t fit the boats too much. The marine merchant told us that there were names of several people who made custom boat covers on the notice board. We wrote down several of the names and phone numbers.

We called several of the custom canvas businesses. Most of them were reserved with orders ahead. The quotes they gave us for ship decks were very high. My sister in law is a wonderful seamstress and I have done some sewing in the past. We decided that we would try to make the boat covers. It took us several hours to design a pattern and several more hours to sew the canvas, but we completed very nice and sturdy boat covers.
