Bicycle Billboard Advertising – It’s More Than An Advertisement, It’s An Attraction

People will surely notice if you: My many years of working in retail and people watching have taught me a few things about people. Anytime you can find an opportunity to entertain, inform, or create a sense of curiosity; you should do it. Why? Because people are absolutely defenseless against such triggers. Knowing this, when I devise a marketing tactic for a client, I always build my program around entertaining, informing, or creating curiosity.

Over 300 ads today and not once did it take my breath away. I know that in the course of today I must have seen at least 300 ads. You too right? But not a single announcement or message today stands out. We take announcements like we take breaths of air; unconsciously. Only when our breath has been taken away are we aware of our breathing. Take your breath away is my approach to advertising. Non-traditional advertising, that is, guerrilla marketing, does this best.

The Guerrilla In The Room. Just as there is no way people can ignore a literal bouncer in the room; people can by no means ignore guerrilla marketing. Nontraditional advertising, also known as guerilla marketing, stands out because the very essence of guerilla marketing is to entertain or create curiosity. When you employ guerilla marketing, you know you have your targets’ full attention and can now properly inform them about your great product or service. And so the advertising works again for the advertiser!

sell power

Last spring my wife and I decided to downsize to a car. Dave Ramsey and his class at Financial Peace University is what prompted such a hasty decision. We figured if we could live with our one car (which is paid off) and pay ourselves instead of paying the lease on our second car, we could eliminate our college loan debt in a year. So, I traded in my Altima for a new bike. Bicycling lends itself to many miles of contemplative thought. On one of my bike rides to work I got to thinking: is there a way to make money with this bike? Bike billboard advertising is what came to my mind. And, to my surprise, others had also thought of this. I put together some business cards. I designed a 41″ x 29″ banner for my bike trailer announcing YOUR AD HERE!. Businesses signed up and I got an extension from my current marketing agency. Street advertising or non-traditional advertising or simply: bicycle billboard advertising.

why it works

The bicycle billboard is entertaining. How fun is it to see some overweight guy doing an ad behind his bike? It is informative. The bike billboard ad has information about the advertiser. Finally, create curiosity. People look for cyclists anyway. How much more are people looking for a big guy on a little bike pulling a sign you just have to read? The best part. It all costs a fraction of the price compared to traditional advertising fees.
