Belly button rings break the age barrier

Belly button rings were once thought to be a teenage thing, but that’s no longer the case.

Belly button rings have been popular since the early 1990s, especially among those in their twenties. At one point, teenage girls pierced their navels more often than their ears. Today that has not changed. Teenage girls still love navel rings, but more and more often you see them appearing in the thirty-plus ensemble as well.

This has come into play for various reasons. The main reason is that people age. The same teens who got their navels pierced in the 1990s are now in their thirties and don’t feel like removing their navel earrings. At this point, women are used to getting their navel pierced and see no reason to give it up just because they’ve hit the big 3-0.

Another reason belly button rings are closing the age gap has to do with the way society views ages. If forty is the new thirty, then thirty is the new twenty-one, and at twenty-one most women have no problem getting their navel pierced. In fact, they are often just as proud to show them off as teenagers, if not more proud. As women age, they tend to become more confident in all aspects of their lives. Instead of having belly button earrings because their friends have them, they have them because they like them.

One of the other big reasons belly button rings can be found on women in their thirties and forties has to do with the health craze that is still hitting the world. People care more about how they look and feel today than they did thirty years ago. This means that people look just as good, if not better, in their thirties than when they were teenagers. So, of course, they want the opportunity to show off their belly button rings and look and feel younger.

All of these reasons combined with the natural confidence that comes with age mean that belly button earrings are no longer just “teen stuff”. Instead, they are now a thing of beauty at any age.
