Advantages and disadvantages of a concrete kitchen countertop

I have noticed that many readers of EzineArticles.com are very interested in the advantages and disadvantages of kitchen countertops, so this is my second article on kitchen countertops and I would like to talk about concrete countertops. advantages:

o It can look rough, rough and raw or smooth and refined.

Disadvantages:

o It needs professional installation as it is not DIY friendly.
o It is heavy, so your units and the floor must be strong enough to support the weight. Some installer may require all cabinets, including the island, to be bolted to the wall and floor.
o It is porous, so it needs to be treated with a sealant and may be inspected once a year if you use it every day.
o It does not absorb sound, so when you work on it it is a bit noisy.
o Anything dropped on it is likely to break as it does not absorb any impact.
o Accessories for concrete countertops can be expensive.
o There may be some discoloration of the surface, if oil or acid based items are spilled and not removed promptly.
