3 Good Skimboarding Spots in Maui, Hawaii

Hawaii is simply a paradise, it also has some of the best skimboarding spots in the world. One of the best places is on Maui, Big Makena. The coasts are known for their great slopes and for being very wide. Waves can reach 12 feet, which is ideal for skimboarding. Big Makena is also not usually very crowded, which all skimboarders wish for. There are some big rocks there so watch out for them, other than that it’s the ideal spot. It is very easy to get to Big Beach Makena. When in Maui, just ask a few locals or grab a tourist map anywhere.

Another great place is called Kaanapali. This beach is very famous for what is called sidewash and most of the time it is not very crowded. This place is popular with the locals, who are generally very nice to everyone. Kaanapali has some good and powerful breaks that make it ideal for performing a good variety of tricks.

Kaanapali is right in front of the Kaanapali Alii Hotel, Westin Hotel and continues to the Hyatt.

When you get the chance, head to Maui and enjoy the beaches with your skimboard.

Lahaina

Lahaina has good beach breaks most of the time. The first BIG winter and summer waves are the best. Tubes, tubes, tubes !! Incoming tides are the way to go. However, the crowds here aren’t that great and some locals have been known to cause trouble, so be sure to be careful not to hit anyone when you’re skimboarding.

From Lahaina (west side), Maui. Go north towards Kaanapali on Honoapiialani HWY (one road only). Turn left on Kaanapali and look for the Kaanapali Ali’i Condo. Go to a beach access at the Ali’i or the Marriot.
