These days it is commonly alleged that Sodom was destroyed by homosexuality, but the Bible in the original languages, as well as other literature of the time, states that the reason was the sexual union of disobedient angels (known as “The Watchers”). with humans

Jude states that certain angels rebelled against God’s ordinances by “prostituting themselves” to human women, and as a consequence, God sent other angels with specific instructions to punish “The Watchers”. Judas states, “just like these”, Sodom and Gomorrah went after strange flesh (the union of angels with human women). Naphtali’s testament 3.3.4-5 also states that the women of Sodom had intercourse with angels.

2 Enoch establishes that the people of Sodom committed abominable acts, corruption of children, magic, enchantments and diabolical witchcraft. The Church Father Irenaeus declared: “And wickedness continued for a long time and spread through all the races of men, until very little seed of justice remained in them. Because illicit unions occurred on earth, like the Angels united with the offspring of the daughters of men, who gave birth to sons, who for their greatness were called Giants. Then the angels brought their women as gifts teachings of evil, because they taught them the virtues of roots and herbs, and dyes and cosmetics and discoveries of precious materials, love-filters, hates, love affairs, passions, coercions of love, bondage of sorcery, all sorcery and idolatry, hated to God; and when this came into the world, evil affairs spread to overflow, and those of justice were reduced to very little”.

the 2nd c. tatian theologian, 2 apology 5, stated: “God entrusted the care of people and of everything under heaven to angels whom he put over them. But the angels disobeyed this command, and were captivated by the love of women, and they begot children who they are the ones who are called demons and not only that, they later subdued the human race by themselves, partly by magical writings, and partly by the fears and punishments they induced, and partly by teaching them to offer sacrifices, incense and libations, for it was these things that stood in need after being enslaved by lustful passions. And among mankind they sowed murder, war, adultery, immoderate acts, and all wickedness.”

Clement of Alexandria, Miscellaneous 5.1.10 stated: “To this we will also add, that the angels who had obtained the highest rank, having sunk into pleasures, told the women the secrets that had come to their knowledge.”

Jude mentions “going after a different flesh”, and the punishment of the angels. jude quotes 1 Enoch 1:9 in verses 14-15. 1 Enoch 6-10 states that 200 angels (The Watchers) came to earth, coveted human women causing “disgrace” and producing offspring. 1 Enoch states that the Watchers taught humans, among other things, sorceries, enchantments, and enchantment binding. Tertullian, Women1.2 stated that angels fell in love with women and referred to their progeny as a “more evil race of demons”.

Naphtali’s testament 3.3.4-5 states that the women of Sodom had intercourse with angels. He says: “In the same way also the Watchers changed the order of their nature, whom also the Lord cursed in the deluge, and for their sake made the earth desolate, leaving it uninhabited and fruitless.” Note the term “changed the order of their nature,” which is similar to Jude’s term, “went after other flesh” and to Paul’s statement, “because the females changed the natural sex for that which is other than nature. And the same goes for males as well,” in Romans 1:26. These days, this is usually mistakenly assumed to refer to homosexuality, but it was actually referring to the union of angels with humans, so precisely Sodom was destroyed.
