The engine of a car is the heart of the vehicle

People had never wondered that they would be able to fly high in the sky like birds, or make their way through the water like aquatic creatures. But all this is now possible with the help of scientific advances and technology. Engines have played an important role in making these dreams come true, and also in automotive progress and development. Just as the heart does the main work in the body, a car engine plays a similar role in a vehicle, the source of its motion and power.

The first question that arises in the novice’s mind is, what is actually going on in the jungle of metal cables, tubes and pipes that creates the smooth movement and movement of the car? The main function of an engine is to convert the energy from burning gasoline fuel to petroleum, to create motion for the car. The fuel burns only inside the chamber, and the full title of a car engine is an internal combustion engine. The working principle of these varies according to their types like two-stroke cycle, four-stroke cycle, six-stroke cycle, diesel cycle, and Atkinson cycle. For a car, a four-stroke cycle engine is most commonly used.

In a four-stroke engine, the entire combustion process is exothermic and takes place in four key steps. First of all, the combustible fuel is transferred to the combustion chamber. In the second stage, a pressure is applied to these mixtures. After applying a large amount of pressure, the combustible mixture ignites. After combustion, the hot mixture begins to expand, and as a result of this expansion it exerts pressure on the moving parts, which then begin to move, thus performing useful work. In the last stage, the cooled products are released into the environment. This is how an engine works.

When purchasing a motor, the first thing to consider is its capacity. It is measured as the total volume that all the pistons can sweep in one movement. It is usually measured in cubic inches or liters. The larger the motor capacity, the more powerful it is. To increase the capacity, two ways can be adopted: firstly, the number of strokes can be increased, and secondly, the diameter of the piston can be increased. However, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the fuel input to ensure the best performance.

The main parameters that determine the performance of an engine are efficiency, fuel consumption and compression ratio. Efficiency is generally measured as a ratio of useful energy to the total energy present in the fuel. During combustion, the fuel is not completely burned, there is still some volume left due to which reduction in efficiency is found and knocking occurs due to which problem arises in the smooth movement of the car and more jerk occurs . Therefore, when choosing a fuel, care must be taken that most of the fuel is ignited. Also, proper engine maintenance should be performed regularly because its good performance keeps your vehicle in good condition and trouble free.
