Starbucks Nutrition: 3 Tips to Avoid the Hidden Calories in Your Cup of Coffee

Starbucks Nutrition is not available on their website. So if you love a cup of coffee, then it’s important that you learn what you should and shouldn’t drink.

You could be drinking a 600 calorie drink, full of sugar and fat, without even knowing it! In this case, ignorance is not bliss, especially if you are trying to lose weight after pregnancy.

Here are 3 tips to help you get through your next Starbucks coffee stop so you don’t drink an entire meal’s worth in your coffee drink.

Tip #1: Skinny Drinks

Starbucks offers a variety of “skinny” drinks. These skinny drinks have sugar-free syrup, fat-free milk, and no whipped cream. An example would be a tall and skinny vanilla latte. You can have your coffee fix for 90 calories. Not bad for a sweetened coffee drink.

If you don’t like flavored coffees and prefer the taste of straight coffee, opt for a 60-calorie fat-free tall cappuccino. This is an even better option than skinny-flavored drinks.

Or, if you really want to cut calories, buy a tall Americano or just brewed coffee. The Americano is 10 calories and the brewed coffee is only 5 calories. But remember, once you start adding cream and sugar, the calories start to add up.

Tip #2: Skip the cake

It can be hard to resist pastries when you’re shopping for your cup of coffee, especially when baristas offer you samples at the counter! But, you may be better off passing up the zucchini walnut muffin for 490 calories. Who knew that something with zucchini would have so many calories?

Imagine if you had that plus a tall white mint mocha, and you’re looking at a total of 930 calories! That’s a lot of calories for a small cup of coffee and a cake.

If you’re hungry, a better option would be the 300-calorie Strawberry Blueberry Yogurt Parfait. Add that with your skinny vanilla latte and your breakfast only adds up to 390 calories. Not a bad way to start the day.

Tip #3: Try tea instead

Lately there has been a lot of enthusiasm for tea, namely green tea for weight loss. If you opted for brewed Tazo tea, your drink has 0 calories.

To lose weight, you basically want to burn more calories than you consume. Drinking tea can save you calories in your weight loss efforts.

In addition, green tea has health benefits. Benefits like fighting cancer and heart disease, lowering cholesterol, burning fat, stopping diabetes and strokes, and postponing dementia.

So the next time you’re in the mood for coffee, remember these Starbucks nutrition facts. When you know what you are eating and drinking, you are in a better position to lose all or more of the weight you gained during pregnancy.
