"No money, no time"- I’m sorry mom, but I won’t buy it

This week on Work at Home Moms Talk Radio, my friend Kelly McCausey spoke about moms who say they don’t have enough money to start a home business. He went on to explain that he was also not born with a silver spoon in his mouth and that he had to raise $ 15 of money from his supermarket to start his online business.

His spiel got me thinking. Nor do I buy the No Money excuse. I have met women who went out of their way to get the cash to start their business. Let me give you some examples.

A mom brought her little girl’s fancy Sunday dresses to a consignment store and used the cash to buy her direct sale kit. Do you think her daughters are upset with her for that? Nah. Now he takes them with him when he travels the world.

A mom had a garage sale and used that $ 80 to invest in a business. He also handed out a flyer that he had printed on his computer to people who visited his sale. (They can’t run away! Extra bonus).

A mother went to the advance sale of the product. She told everyone how great the material was, took orders, and collected the money. She deposited the checks and used that money to purchase the product at a distributor price. Then he turned around and sold the product to those retail customers.

You can literally start an online business for around $ 20. For example, Dayana will host your website for an entire year for $ 15. You can buy a domain name for $ 2.99- $ 10.

You can start with that, and as you start making money, reinvest in your business. You will need a mailing list manager and a couple of other tools to really be successful, but the point is to start somewhere.

In this country, if a person cannot come up with that little cash, they are likely to be extremely lazy or totally uncreative. That type of person is not a good fit for a home-based entrepreneur anyway, so that’s okay.

Other ideas:

Get a loan from a friend or family member, with a written agreement to pay it back. If you are in really bad shape and you don’t have a family member or friend who loves you enough to lend you a few dollars, then you have other problems!

You could even approach your sponsor if you are considering joining a direct sales company. Tell him that you will reserve 5 parts in your first week and give him all the winnings until the money is refunded. If you have that in writing, you tell her your plan of attack and you’re sincere, I can’t imagine her saying no! She knows that you are a person who thinks “outside the box” and that you are temporarily bankrupt but highly motivated and that she knows that you will probably be a great addition to her team.

Sell some things on eBay. You can clean your closets (or someone else’s!) Or go to a thrift store and buy Baby Gap clothes to sell on eBay for extra money. CDs, DVDs, and hardcover books also sell well.

Do a quick, temporary job. I know a mom who put up a handmade sign at a local health food store: Non-Toxic Cleaning Services. He pocketed $ 150 for a few hours of work, and guess what, he used his own natural cleaning product and probably made a client too.

Cancel the cable. Contrary to popular belief, cable television is not a necessity. Use that $ 60 a month or more to build a business. That will also give you an edge over the other favorite excuse …

Another excuse I don’t buy? The “no time” excuse

We all have 24 hours a day. Some people can do amazing things with the gift of time.

Remember the mom who used to sell the dresses at the consignment store? He had 7 children. 7 home schooled children. She built her business one person at a time, simply inviting them to her home for a cup of tea while her children played around her. If someone “didn’t have time”, it was her. But she took the time. Now she enjoys a residual income that allows her to travel on cruise ships and pamper her grandchildren.

Do people have time to watch their favorite TV shows every day or every week, but don’t have time to exercise? To quote Homey the Clown, “I don’t think so.”

If you have kids, why not work in a cooperative childcare with another working mom? You could babysit her children for a few hours two or three days a week and she could do the same for you. During that time, you could focus on building your business. If you are very careful how you spend your time, a few hours 3 days a week might be enough to start and build a profitable business!

As you start to make a profit, you need to commit to reinvesting in tools that will save you time and automate different tasks. You can also outsource some of the easier activities, or things that you don’t enjoy as much, to someone else so that you can focus on the things that you are good at that really make you money.

When you run a home business, you get good at making the most of your time at home. You become more efficient with household chores, you ask for help and you also delegate more. Those things save you time.

I know what I have said here may step on some toes, but I am telling the truth. Stop making excuses. Get creative and find out how to solve these problems so that you can move forward with your goals.

Now go find them!
