How can Christians be homosexual in light of the Bible?

Can Christians be gay and not have to live in constant turmoil and frustration? Can Christians be a gay period? How can Christians be homosexual when the Bible seems to condemn same-sex sexual activity? There are many questions for same-sex attracted Christians and those who care about them (not all Christians do, sadly). GLTB youth are often conditioned in the Church to believe that their sexual orientation is offensive to their Creator. This has the effect of silencing gay people, preventing them from learning and socializing like others do. This can cause all kinds of problems.

Can Christians be homosexual when most Christians say it is an abomination? How can young people cope with that? Many Christians believe that being gay is not a sin, but acting on it is. A person recently commented on a blog post on my site saying that he believed that God was interested in us being comfortable or happy. He didn’t agree with my views on homosexuality, which is fine, but to think that God didn’t want us to be happy, what kind of miserable God is that!

How can Christians be homosexual when the Church is full of people who do not accept or support them? Where is the brotherly love? The man who responded to my blog obviously has no experience of a loving God. I would like to say to him: “Why do you believe in this God?” I would like to draw you out of his delusion and make you reconsider his damning views. I know I couldn’t have faith in God unless He was good to me, and I can.

The first step I teach people to do when they want to resolve this question of whether Christians can be gay is to figure out why they are gay. Christian gay conversion therapy teaches that gay men are gay because of unmet homoemotional needs that turn into sexualized desires. This means that they believe that all men have ‘natural’ emotional needs towards people of the same sex, and if those needs are not met ‘naturally’, they turn into sexual desires, which is ‘unnatural’. When I finally asked myself why I was gay, I realized that there were no reasons, despite what the Church had taught me. it just was.

When people want to know how Christians can be gay, this is a vital step in the asking process. Most GLBT Christians live in fear of their sexuality and of God and then there are the many who turn away from their faith because they need their sanity and feel they can’t have both. After much Bible study and contemplation, I have come to the conclusion that I can have both.

After three months of solid truth-seeking, study, and discussion with other gay Christians and sympathizers, I was able to establish a secure foundation in my life that God made me gay and that he was gay himself. Obviously God is not only homosexual, but he is Omnisexual and we all have a personal expression and part of his omnisexuality.

How can Christians be homosexual in light of biblical Scripture? Believe in the scriptures! The Sodom narrative in Genesis Nineteen reveals only a story of homosexual rape, rather than a story of homosexual love or passion. In recent centuries this passage of scripture has been wildly used to condemn gay and lesbian people, but the truth is that those same Christians who say these things are committing the same shameful acts that were committed by the people of Sodom, which was the lack of hospitality towards foreigners or those who are not one of them.

Gay Christians need to approve of themselves to find the peace they long for. God already approves and accepts them, but they also need to give this to themselves. With a little education about the Scriptures, you may find that the Bible has nothing negative to say about being GLBT. If this is the case, then we can fully and wholeheartedly embrace being gay.

The man who commented on my blog turns out to be an alcoholic. Unfortunately for him, he can stay that way unless he gets to know he’s okay. People rot when they think they’re bad, and believing that being gay is an abomination makes gays hate themselves and live in fear. It can also be due to mental illness. Therefore, the cure is to believe that homosexuality is as much a gift from God as any other form of sexuality given by God.
