Decorating your rental

One of the biggest frustrations for renters is the rules that landlords impose when it comes to decoration. Very few allow you to paint with color. Carpets may be old and window treatments old-fashioned. Making a white walled house or apartment home sweet can be a challenge. But, knowing a few tricks to help you reduce tenant regulations can make all the difference.

The owners are generally not decorators. They don’t know any better than tossing in some mini blinds or making the mistake of placing a rod directly on the edge of the window. Although most mini blinds should stay in place, you can easily move the location of your curtain rods. Try moving the rods about a foot above the window and temporarily reposition the curtains until you move out. You will be amazed how much a room will change when the curtains are drawn up and hang down for a long time. Creates the appearance of higher ceilings, thus creating the illusion of a larger space. Also, adding some colorful fabrics can fill in the blank canvas of a white wall.

There is a world of colors and textures in drapery fabrics. Add some shine with some silk. Insert another rod and hang some soft curtains. Go crazy with bold and beautiful colors. You’d be surprised how quickly a room can change when you use this hanging spike and add your own color and inspiration.

Another idea for decorating your rental is to spice it up with some custom accessories. Find a cute planter, rug, or shower curtain to add a little (temporary) personalization to your space!
